Information about the tour
Join us on a hike to Mimmikulle – the site of the first recorded executions. During the walk, we explore the events that unfolded here and reflect together on how and why they took place.
The witchcraft trials
On May 19, 1669, the first six people of the witch trials in Älvdalen were sentenced and executed. This was followed by further ‘witch executions’ until 1676, when the period known as The Great Noise finally came to an end. In total, around three hundred people were beheaded in Sweden between 1668 and 1676, accused of witchcraft. Their bodies were then burned at the stake. And it all began here in Älvdalen.
