Join us on a hike through ancient quarries and a nature reserve – a journey through time itself. From the roar of a volcano to a moss-covered mountain steeped in stories and legends. Few people know that Älvdalen once lay on the equator, but on this tour you’ll uncover the fascinating truth. High on the mountain, age-old tales of trolls, spirits and mystical creatures still live on.

  • Meet at the parking lot below Blyberget
  • The tour takes about 2 hours. Varied terrain
  • Good hiking shoes are recommended
  • Outhouse is found on the mountain

New Porphyry Plant

Where porphyry was crafted until 1984.

Älvdalens Nya Porfyrverk was founded in 1897 by Frost Anders Andersson. The museum shows the exact environment where porphyry production took place until 1984. Some of the machines were constructed at the end of the 18th century.

In the footsteps of the scythe smiths

For over 100 years, Långö Bruk was an industrial community whose name became known throughout the world. There were smithies, a manor house, a school, and everything else that belonged to a mill. Today, the smiths' hammer blows have fallen silent, and only a couple of houses and a few house foundations remain.
